The Environmental Technology Group develops academic researches concerning techniques for treatment of effluents, focusing on their fundamental aspects and applications. Among the currently investigated techniques are the biotechnological processes, with current emphasis on the membrane bioreactors, the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and the auxiliary physicochemical processes, such as flotation, coagulation and flocculation, micro and ultrafiltration, among others. The group’s activities concentrate at LabPol (Water Pollution Control Laboratory), which celebrated 30 years of work in 2004. During this period, several Master’s and Doctorate theses were concluded. LabPol has the tradition of establishing partnerships with other groups of UFRJ and of other institutions. Besides, it develops extension works, through development projects and technological studies with several companies.
