In 1967, the defense of the thesis entitled “Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium of the Ethanol-Benzene-Chloroform Mixture” by Enrique Becerra marked the beginning of the field of research in Thermodynamics at PEQ. Quickly, the defining lines of the Applied Thermodynamics field of research were traced, whose activities had significant growth in the 70s, when the Laboratory of Thermodynamic Properties was created. After a period of stagnation, the research in the area was resumed with the creation of the Laboratory of Applied Thermodynamics, later renamed as Laboratory of Separation Processes, which currently works with the partnership of Petrobras.
